The Interlocker

Activity insights:

Call it our magic wand, the Interlocker activity is among the most powerful tools of our outbound program. Here, 15 interlocking planks will be assigned to each team, and they have to assemble it together as per the blue print.

How it is done:

In this activity, members are divided into teams and given 15 interlocking planks. With the help of the blueprint, they have to come up with a clear-cut strategy and put it into action in order to fetch desirable results. Teams make several attempts to put the unit together.

Overview:

  1. Group Size: strong>20 – 100 (Max 6 or 8 people in a team)
  2. Activity Time: strong>2-6 hours
  3. Preferred Setting: Indoor/Outdoor
  4. Neuron Activity Level: Medium

Activity Target:

The intent of this activity is deep rooted and the learnings too naturally get imbibed into the participants. Employees understand the nuances of problem-solving, process improvement, role definition and innovation.

Key Takeaways:

Leadership

This activity hones leadership skills, where a leader will have to take responsibility and steer the entire project from the start to the end. He/she has to efficiently delegate tasks and make quick decisions on the go when problems arise.

Effective and cross-team communication

Effective communication plays a vital role in the seamless execution of any project. Here, members learn the value to communicating coherently across various levels and sections in order to execute their task without a glitch. This understanding gets carried on to the workplace as well.

Process improvement

Due to the complexity of the task, members have to make several attempts to get their unit together. Each time they fail or something goes wrong, they have to re-evaluate their process and come up with a better and improved strategy. It gives members the confidence that even if things do not go their way initially, they can eventually yield favourable results through constant process improvement.

Sharing best practice

This activity gives members an opportunity to understand the importance of sharing the best practice. The challenging nature of the task forces the members to come together and contribute at an optimal level in order to emerge victorious.

Understanding and defining roles and responsibilities

To achieve the given task at hand, there has to be a clear understanding and defining of roles and responsibilities. The teams have to understand where everyone fits in and have to leverage one’s strengths for a successful result. Also, every member has to take his role seriously and work diligently towards a favourable output.

Working towards common goals

As the pressure of executing the task increases, the members automatically forget about their individual differences and grudges and work together as a team to achieve a common goal. This understanding translates into the office scenario as well.

100 percent inclusion

This activity promises 100 percent inclusion, where each and every member is involved in putting their best foot forward and participates towards executing the project to precision.
